The final assignment in advertising design had us focus on an opinion piece that you would see in the New York Times. I decided to choose a less controversial topic, but something that means a lot to me personally, and that is the decline of WWE over the past couple years.
For the assignment we had to create an article that would appear in the New York Times, billboard, banner ad, and ad’s that you would see in the subway. Lately WWE has been releasing a documentary series called “Unreal” on Netflix, where they show you how they come up with the storylines and show you behind the scenes stuff that used to be kept secret. I wanted to focus on how that takes away from the magic of wrestling. The word-mark “Get “REAL” Again” is done in a tall strong typeface, meant to represent what wrestlers are, and in the typeface I put a script, showing that the bones behind wrestling are now more than visible, but now being promoted.
The other portions of the project I wanted to showcase wrestlers that are larger than life and made people believe it was real, and I topped it off with a crumpled paper texture to give the design a little more roughness and edge to it.
