This was the first project given to me in Professional Design Practices. We had to give our professor three older projects of ours and he would choose one of them for us to redesign. The project that he selected for me was an old Wizards poster that I had made a few years ago for my Intro to Visual Graphics class back at Germanna. For that project we were assigned to create an 8.5 X 11 poster and I was only allowed to use 5 images to create it. For the redesign the 5 image limit restriction was lifted however some new requirements were added to the brief. I was assigned to make a poster in a similar style to my original for Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, and Trae Young, and each one must feature the Wizards tagline “For Our Next Trick” the player name and number, a quote from each player, and “Get tickets today at NBA.com/Wizards".
When tackling this project my main goal was to use my old project as a starting point and to build off that when making the 3 new ones. The first one I made was the Alex Sarr poster, it went very smoothly and I used that as a base for the remaining posters. The next one I made was for Kyshawn George. The main struggle I had with him was finding high quality images of his face, he’s a newer and younger player so I didn’t have many images to choose from with him, however the real challenge was with Trae Young. At the time of this assignment Trae Young hadn’t even played a game for the Wizards yet because he was injured and had just been traded to the Wizards from the Hawks. This ment I had to photoshop Trae Young into a Wizards uniform. That alone took me over 5 hours to do.
Despite some of the challenges faced with this project I got it done and I am very proud with how the work came out. Basketball is something I spent a lot of my time growing up playing, and the Wizards are my favorite team, so it was a ton of fun getting the opportunity to create this set of posters.
